Article on Parenting Website about In Good Hands

November 6, 2016

I was glad that a parenting website was interested in writing an article about In Good Hands. The point of my book was not only to describe the twists and turns of an amazing case that slowly made its way through the criminal justice system, but to empower parents with knowledge that could help them protect their children.

A few days later a very different kind of article appeared on a nonprofit news website based in Hawaii. This excellent investigative piece  should help open the eyes of parents in that state (and, I hope, beyond). it did a great job exposing the limitations of government agencies in monitoring and investigating family day care.

One big takeaway? We can (and should) try to make the system work better, but we can’t depend on government to do this for us. We need to monitor day care ourselves.
